Sindhu and her coach – Coaching can be more powerful than you think
The most endearing images in the last 2 days has been the rising of a new young star Sindhu – with a quiet aggression, fearless of taking on the best 2 in the world, playing with a clear mind and going for the win.
And in the process bringing together a whole nation of cricket lovers into a new sport, sitting glued to their tv’s and taking pride in her achievements.
That one individual did that, backed up by one coach who believed in her, in addition to her family and friends is possibly what made the difference.
It was less of the system and more of the focused support from the coach and family that tilted the scales.
I think there is a lesson in here, not just for sports persons for whom coaching is usually part of the game, but for entrepreneurs, corporate leaders across levels, students aiming to hit the academic or corporate circuit or anyone wanting to raise the standard of whatever they want to do or believe they deserve,
As someone I was recently working with as a Mentor and a Coach wrote
“ A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, then you see yourself, and help brings it out of you “ ….Bob Proctor
“A Coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, and make you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you can be”…Tom Landry
And it was also written about a lot more in my most recent article on Executive Coaching – lets make it a bigger movement in India
So while the article does focus on executives, the principle applies to anyone wanting to raise the bar, believe in themselves and remove the cobwebs of self doubt and self limiting beliefs.
Having a good coach and investing in your own development maybe one of the best decisions you take for yourself, your circle of influence and your loved ones.
Do not try and fight your battles yourself. Having that sounding board who challenges, supports and takes joy from your wins can be the one thing missing today.
